4.A.1.e. Electioneering & the Poll Watcher
At some point during the day, you may be asked who sent you or who you represent. Answer honestly while remaining within the electioneering guidelines.
IF ASKED about party affiliation, reply clearly and only once. State the name of the organization on your credentials.
Do not reply, "I am a Democrat," "I am a Republican," or even "I am Sparticus."
Instead, reply:
- "The PARTY AFFILIATION party of COUNTY County."
- "I represent the ORGANIZATION NAME civic organization."
- "I am with the CANDIDATE campaign."
Then stop. That is the most you can say while remaining within the electioneering guidelines, and only if asked.
What If Someone Comments?
Strike One: Forbearance
Remain silent. Maintain a neutral expression and ignore the comment, whether positive or negative.
Strike Two: Fair Warning
If a second comment is made, say, "I'm sorry, I cannot discuss that within the Polling Place."
Strike Three: You're Out!
If a third comment is made, refer it to an Election Judge as an electioneering issue.
