Chapter 9 – Assisted Voting
B. Voter Booth With Wheelchair Access
Every polling place should have at least one voting booth that is wheel chair accessible. That booth should have the same privacy available to it as the other voting booths.
If a wheelchair accessible voting booth is not available, an ad hoc voting booth consisting of barriers to protect the privacy of the vote can be placed at a table.
The wheelchair accessible voting booth and the ad hoc voting booth at a table are available to any voter who requests it. The voter does not have to prove disability.
Poll Watcher Actions
If a voter in line to vote shows signs of distress, a poll watcher can ask an election judge to allow the distressed voter to vote immediately. It is the election judge's decision.
Before a voter receives a ballot, a poll watcher can suggest to the voter that they request an accessible voting booth.
An election judge can offer an accessible voting booth at any time.
Once a voter receives a ballot, a poll watcher can draw the attention of an election judge to a voter who seems to be in distress.
