Chapter 10 — The Most Common Problems
C. A Voter Who Has Moved
A voter who is registered in Illinois and moves from one jurisdiction to another, can register to vote at an in–person polling place, provided they present proper identification, which would include proof of residency.
A voter who claims that their registration address was changed in error and that they still live at the original address, upon providing proper identification which includes proof of residency, will have the registration change canceled, and can vote a regular ballot.
A voter who is either changing their own the registered address or claiming that their address was changed in error AND who cannot provide proper identification which includes proof of residency can either return to the polling place with the proper identification or will have to vote a provisional ballot.
Changes in voter address can also be made at the County Clerk's Office, by mail, or online.
Voters who change their address by mail or online, may be asked to produce proper identification at the polling place.
