3.G. Election Officials

In common usage, "Election Officials" is a broad, informal phrase. The press will often use the phrase loosely. It commonly references the people in the polling places who are not voters.

"Election Officials" can also refer to the Election Authority (i.e., County Clerk or local Board of Election Commissioners ).

By statute, election officials are local, county, or township officials who are assigned election duties.

Relevant Illinois State Law

"Local election official"
means the clerk or secretary of a unit of local government or school district, as the case may be, the treasurer of a township board of school trustees, and the regional superintendent of schools with respect to the various school officer elections and school referenda for which the regional superintendent is assigned election duties by The School Code, as now or hereafter amended.
