3.K. Other Observers

Officials in performance of their official duties are allowed to enter and remain in the Polling Place.

Upon entering the Polling Place, these individuals shall display their official credentials or other identification to the Election Judges.

The following are allowed in the Polling Place:

  • The Election Authority for that jurisdiction,
  • Representatives of the State Board of Elections,
  • Law enforcement performing official election duties, including but not limited to:
    • A United States Attorney,
    • A State's Attorney,
    • The Illinois Attorney General,
    • A uniformed State, county, or local police officer.

All observers listed above are subject to the same rules and restrictions as poll watchers.

  • They cannot handle election materials or equipment.
  • They cannot instruct a voter on the use of electronic election equipment.
  • They cannot instruct a voter on how to fill out a ballot.
  • They cannot instruct or assist a voter in casting a ballot.
  • They must ensure that the secrecy of the ballot is not compromised.

The poll watcher does not interact with these individuals unless asked a direct question.
