blue thumb Rule of Thumb.

The listed documents can be used as either a proof of a voter's identity or to establish the registrant's current address at the discretion of the Election Judge.

For example: The registrant offers a Social Security card to establish their identity and a newly renewed driver's license as proof of residency.

Driver's licenses are not usually acceptable proof of residency because of the long renewal period, but a newly renewed driver's license can fulfill the proof of residency requirement.

A driver's license can be presented as either a proof of identity or proof of residency, but not as both. Two different documents are always required.

lookingWhat the Poll Watcher Is Looking For.

A list of acceptable IDs is listed on the voter registration page of the state's online e-poll book.

Election Judges should offer this information to the person registering to vote and not leave the registrant to guess what is acceptable documentation.

If the Election Judge does not inform the registrant of the required documentation, then the poll watcher should challenge.

The voter registration page of the state's e-poll book is a reasonable record, the poll watcher can ask to see the voter registration page of the state's e-poll book and read the list of acceptable documents out loud so that the registrant can hear.

A poll watcher can also offer a copy of the PDF listed above.
