6.D. Examine the Voting Machines

6.D.5. Confirm That the Voting Machine Is On Public View

The poll watcher will check that the entire voting machine is in full view.

Each voting machine should be positioned:

  • at least one (1) foot from every wall and partition,
  • at least three (3) feet from any election officials or table used by them, this includes poll watchers,
  • placed that no person can see or determine how the voter casts their vote.

Relevant Illinois State Law

The exterior of the voting machines, and every part of the polling place shall be in plain view of the election officials.

The voting machine or voting machines shall be placed at least one foot from every wall and partition of the polling place and at least three (3) feet from any election officials or table used by them, and it shall be so placed that no person can see or determine how the voter casts his vote.
