6.J. A List of Election Judges and Their Party Affiliations

blue thumb Rule of Thumb

Although not required by statute, this procedure will make the poll watcher's time in the polling place much easier.

Make a list of the names, precincts, and political parties of all Election Judges.

Never treat Election Judges differently because of political party.

6.J.1. What If the Election Judge Objects?

Explain that there are situations when two Election Judges from different political parties are required.
It is better to know now than to resolve the issue during an incident or dispute.

If an Election Judge still objects, ask to see the Election Judge sign-in sheet.

The Election Judge sign-in sheet is an official record and may be viewed by the poll watcher.

6.J.2. The Political Party of the Majority of the Election Judges

In the 2026 and 2027 election cycles, the majority of the Election Judges must be Democrats.

The minority of Election Judges must be Republicans.

There are no provisions for independent or third party Elections Judges.

If you are a poll watcher for the Democratic or Republican political parties and this is not so, contact your poll watcher team.

6.J.3. Check the Voter Registration of Other Poll Watchers

This procedure is optional.

Ask to see the poll watcher sign-in sheet.

Ask an Election Judge to check that all poll watchers are registered to vote.
