Chapter 9 – Assisted Voting
H. Hospitalized Voters
A registered voter who is hospitalized within two weeks of Election Day can apply for a vote by mail ballot, up to and including Election Day.
A relative of the hospitalized voter or a neighbor who lives within the same precinct as the hospitalized voter can — with the proper paperwork — pick up the vote by mail ballot at the election authority and deliver the vote by mail ballot to the hospitalized voter.
This is the only case where a voter can apply for a vote by mail ballot up to and including Election Day.
That same person can return the completed vote by mail ballot — in the security envelope — to the election authority before the polls close on Election Day.
Poll watchers do not participate in this voter assistance method, but should be aware of it.
