Chapter 9 – Assisted Voting

G. Curbside Voting

Curbside voting is a strange and mysterious concept.

Election authorities may or may not implement curbside voting.

If an election authority does decide to implement curbside voting, they will not know until ninety (90) days before the election the requirements for curbside voting as set by the State Board of Elections.

The election authority may or may not share the particulars of that implementation with your poll watcher's team, but are not required to, so don't hold your breath.

Poll Watcher's Duty

Since so little is known about the requirements for curbside voting, poll watchers should work under the assumption that it will follow the rules of other voters who cannot access the polling place until you are told otherwise.
See: Chapter 9F, Voter Who Cannot Access the Polling Place.

Electioneering Restrictions

One possible difference would finding the curbside outside of the The Campaign Free Zone, and so are no longer subject to restrictions on electioneering.

The curbside may be within The Public Forum, where electioneering is allowed and the benefit of the doubt is given to those exercising their free speech.

We will assume that while performing your poll watcher's duties, The Campaign Free Zone moves with you to the curbside. You cannot restrict electioneering in the two election judges, but you can challenge it and write it up. You have little right to challenge a voter who is electioneering outside The Campaign Free Zone and even less for anyone accompanying the voter in the car. Do your best. Refrain from electioneering and discourage others from electioneering.
