Chapter 2 — Basic Poll Watcher Rights & Responsibilities
2.B. Electioneering
2.B.4. Electioneering & the Poll Watcher
Sometime during the day, you will be asked, who sent you or who you represent? Answer honestly while remaining within the electioneering guidelines.
IF ASKED about party affiliation, you reply clearly and only once. Reply with the name of the organization on your credentials.
Do not reply, "I am a Democrat," or "I am a Republican." or even "I am Sparticus."
Instead, reply:
- "The PARTY AFFILIATION party of COUNTY county."
- "I represent the ORGANIZATION civic organization."
- "I am with the CANDIDATE campaign."
Then hush up. That is the most you can say while staying within the electioneering guidelines; and you can say that much only if asked.
What If Someone Comments?
Strike One: Forbearance
Remain silent. Put on your best poker face and ignore the comment, good or bad.
Strike Two: Fair Warning
If a second comment is made, say, "I'm sorry, I cannot discuss that within the polling place."
Strike Three: You're Out!
If a third comment is made, refer it to the Election Judge as an electioneering challenge.
