Chapter 2 — Basic Poll Watcher Rights & Responsibilities
2.C. The Lay of the Land, The Polling Place and Central Counting Facility
2.C.4. The Voting Booth Area
2.C.4.a. Poll Watcher Access to Voter Booths
Poll watchers, who have, by law, extraordinary access within the Polling Place have limited access to the voting booth area.
The one restriction a poll watcher has to free movement within the Polling Place is to be near the voting booths while the booths are occupied by voters.
Rule of thumb: Stay out of the voting booth area if there are ANY voters voting.
2.C.4.a.1 Checking the Voter Booths
One of the duties of the poll watcher before the polls open is to check the voting booths.
- A poll watcher checks the voting booths before the polls open,
- and throughout the day when no voter is present in any of the voter booths.
A poll watcher is primarily looking for materials that break the electioneering rules, but should take note of other objects left in the voter booth
DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING IN THE VOTER BOOTH. Bring it to the attention of an Election Judge.
