2.D. Who Are The People In the Polling Place?

2.D.2. The Person Assisting the Voter.

A person assisting the voter is allowed in the Polling Room with the voter.

Both the voter and the person assisting the voter must sign an affidavit before a ballot can be issued.

2.D.2.a. A Person Assisting the Voter With Mobility Issues.

If the person assisting the voter is not going to assist the voter in voting, such as when:

  • A voter with mobility issues needs assistance getting to the voting booth but does not need assistance in voting, or
  • The voter requests assistance in voting from the election judges,

then, once the voter is safely at the voting booth, the person assisting the voter will retire outside of the Polling Room.

When the voter has completed voting, the person assisting the voter can return to the Polling Room.

2.D.2.a.1. The Assistant Remaining In the Polling Room.

When the voter needs the help of an assistant while voting, but is not assisting the voter in voting, the person assisting the voter may remain in the Polling Room with the voter at the discretion of the election judge.

That assistant should not communicate with the voter while the voter is voting.

The voter's privacy should be protected while voting.
